Construction—In a special meeting on Wednesday, May 8, the Central Presbyterian Session gave final approval to 8th Street driveway project. Weather permitting, construction is set to begin on Monday, May 20. Barring a monsoon or an unanticipated obstruction of some sort, the project should take approximately 3.5 weeks. During construction, the Sanctuary Building should be accessed through the Columbia St. and 7th St. entrances, and the Education Building should be entered from 7th Street.

Summer Adult Sunday School

Our Adult Discipleship Team has lined up another exciting study series for this summer. “Faith of Our Neighbors” will begin on Sunday, June 9. Dr. Raymond Williams, professor emeritus from Wabash College, will lead off our discussion on June 9. On June 16 & July 30 we will look at a couple different streams beside the Protestant within Christianity—the Roman Catholic and Orthodox Traditions. We will also have Sundays devoted to Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism and the Baha’i faith. We will have guest speakers from each of these traditions as our presenters. Jeff Cover will wrap things up with a discussion August 4 on what these explorations of other faiths have taught us about our own. Please see the June edition of the Central Press for a complete schedule as well as for some ground rules for our discussions. This class will be open to both youth and adults and will meet in Room 200.

Vacation Bible School! June 17, 18, 19, 20

Vacation Bible School is right around the corner! Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbors, please mark your calendars for June 17-20! This summer we will have a great time learning about the life of Paul and how his journey impacts our lives. VBS will run from 6-8p. We will have an exciting large group time where we will learn about Paul, snacks, crafts, and more! Please spread the word to those with kids age 3 through 5^th grade. We will be pre-registering kids on June 2 and 9.

Wear Red to Church on Pentecost Sunday, May 19

On Pentecost Sunday, May 19, we celebrate the birthday of the Church – the day when the Holy Spirit descended upon the followers of Jesus in something like tongues of flame. On this day, everyone is encouraged to wear red to worship, in celebration of Pentecost. See the bell dedication announcement for more Pentecost opportunities!

Please let the church office know when you, or a member of your family, or a member/friend of our church community is in the hospital or will be going into the hospital. Central’s Pastors, Deacons and Stephen Ministers want to provide meaningful and timely pastoral care. Due to privacy regulations the hospitals do not always share patient information with the church.

Food! Fun! Fellowship! Sunday, June 2!

Food! Fun! Fellowship! Join us for the All-Church Picnic, Sunday, June 2, from 3 to 6p in the Bergamot shelter at Prophetstown State Park, 5545 Swisher Road, West Lafayette. Rain or shine. Burgers, hot dogs and beverages will be provided; please bring a salad, side dish or dessert to share, as well as a family photograph to display. Pack along lawn chairs, frisbees, balls, bikes, etc.! There will be games and activities for all ages, including horse-drawn wagon rides from 5 to 6p. Please sign up on the posters in the back of the Large Fellowship Hall and the Sanctuary. State park admission is $6 per vehicle, payable at the park gatehouse. The church bus will be available if you need a ride. See you there!

Bell Dedication

Bell Dedication – The newly refurbished Central Presbyterian bell and bell tower will be rededicated to the Glory of God on Pentecost Sunday, May 19. Weather allowing, the brief service of blessing will begin at 10:45a on the sidewalk beneath the tower at the corner of Columbia and 7th Streets. We will give thanks to God and enjoy the peal of the bell. For the curious and brave, the tower will be open for tours from 10:10-10:30, and following the 11a service. Please note that there are many steep stairs, and appropriate footwear is a must!

Honoring Sunday School Teachers
