Frequently Asked Questions

Central is a Stephen Ministry Congregation. For more information, please call Rick Snow (448-1240).
Q: What is the size of Central’s congregation? A: Central’s average weekly attendance for 2006 was 306 people per Sunday. Our average attendance for the 9:00a Celebration! (rock & roll church) service is currently 160. We currently average 190 at our 11:00a Traditional worship. Central welcomes people of all religious (and non-religious) backgrounds and seeks to honor people wherever they are in their journeys with God.
Q: What is Central's History? A: Central Church has been part of the Lafayette community for more than 170 years. During that time the church has been actively involved in caring for the community, teaching about the Christian faith and establishing other Presbyterian congregations in the area.
Q: How can I learn more about Central? A: Please contact one of our pastors or e-mail or call Laurie Kuhn at 742-8481. We can also send you copies of our Sunday bulletin and our newsletter.
Q: What is your weekly schedule? A: Many activities and events take place each week at Central. You will find information about these activities on this site, in the church’s monthly newsletter, The Central Press, and in the weekly worship programs. You will also find a detailed calendar of each week’s events on the calendar page.
Q: How can I become a member of Central? A: We have membership classes as needed. Please contact one of our pastors or e-mail or call Laurie Kuhn at 742-8481.
Q: How involved can I be in the church without being a member? A: Central’s model of ministry involves the people and pastors as partners. At Central we believe that every baptized believer has spiritual gifts to offer in service to Christ and that all people can serve in ministry regardless of their membership in the church. People can become involved to whatever extent they choose; however, officers must be members of the church.

To find a ministry to serve, contact Rev. Jeff Cover (742-8481), or check the Ministry link on this site.

Q: Who is responsible for the decisions and policies of the church? A: Central has two boards of ordained church officers. The Session is responsible for the administrative leadership of the congregation. Examples of the vital ministries it oversees are worship, education, fellowship, and outreach and welcome. Our Board of Deacons is responsible for many pastoral care and local mission ministries. We also have the Board of Trustees (not ordained) which manage our property and provide a vital role in budgetary affairs.
